The inaugural Wood-n-Tap FanTapsy football league was a resounding success. With over 100 teams vying for a shot at Hawaii, this season came down to one of the final plays of the last game in the playoffs.
This was an interesting fantasy season as Tom Brady got injured early, Peyton didn't become Peyton until halfway through the season and LTD never became LTD. Those who jumped on rookies Matt Forte, Chris Johnson or Matt Ryan were rewarded, while those who banked on perennial fantasy studs Carson Palmer, Chad Johnson and Plaxico Burress were shot in the leg. And after all his talk, Jason Page never saw the top half of his league, and generally languished at the bottom of the standings the whole year.
Due to some great drafting, the playoffs didn't start to take shape until weeks 9 and 10. Even then, Farmington still had 5 teams in the mix until the last weekend of the regular season. Just like the regular season, the playoffs would prove to be a nail-biter.
With a three week total points championship, it was going to go down to the wire. Going into the final 2 games of the final weekend, it looked as if the top 3 teams were set and one team only needed their final player, Matt Forte, to get a few yards and they would be going to Hawaii. All that changed after the Sunday night game, as Brandon Jacobs and DeAngelo Williams combined for 200 yards and 7 TDs, vaulting a 4th place team into first with a solid chance of winning. With the current 1st and 2nd place teams having no players remaining, only the team in 3rd place could upset the balance of the league with a big game out of Matt Forte. The stage was set – Matt Forte needed more than his average fantasy point output to send his GM to Hawaii... and going into the 4th quarter, he had yet to do so. On the Bears final drive, Forte had a touchdown run to bring his team within points of Hawaii. Back in the real world, the Packers looked to end the game with a field goal. If they make this field goal, the Bears would have less than a minute to attempt a tie – almost guaranteeing Matt Forte would touch the ball. The Bears blocked the field goal and ran out the clock. In OT, Forte was fed the rock and sent Chris's Please Retire Favre to Hawaii and FanTapsy football glory.
